U6-U8 Terminology

Kick Off

A kick off is used to begin each half and to restart a play after each goal.  The ball is placed in the middle of the field.  The ball must go forward into the opponent's half of the field and is in play after rolling one complete revolution.  The player kicking off can not play the ball again until it has been touched by another player.  Opponents must be 5 yards away in their half of the field.

Throw-in

A throw-in is used to restart the play after the whole of the ball has crossed the outside edge of the side line.  The throw-in may be taken by any player on the team that did not touch the ball last. Both feet must be on the ground and completely behind the line.  Both hands must be on the ball at time of release.  Opposing players must be 5 yards away.

Goal Kick

Goal kicks are taken by any defending player to restart the game when the ball has gone past the goal line and is last touched by an attacking player.  The ball is placed on the ground within 5 yards of the goal.  Opposing players must stand 5 yards away from the ball.

Corner Kick

Corner kicks are taken by any attacking player when the ball goes past the goal line and is last touched by a defending player.  The ball is placed on the ground on the playing field within 1/2 yard of the corner nearest where the ball went out.  Opposing players must stand 5 yards from the kicker.  A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick.

Indirect Kick

An indirect kick is used to restart play when a foul has occurred. The ball is placed on the ground where the foul occurred. The player that was fouled is entitled to a free kick similar to kick off.  Defending players must stand 5 yards from the kicker.

Goal

A goal is scored when the whole ball crosses the whole of the line between the two goal posts.

Five Yard Zone

Both attacking and defending players are encouraged to not "camp out" within 5 yards of the goals.
